The Halloween Candy Dilemma and My Solution

So it's November 1st.  And you have a couple baskets of Halloween candy.  What to do...what to do?  :)

It certainly is the dilemma every Easter and Halloween in our home.  The minute we got home from trick-or-treating, my husband commanded all the candy be brought to the kitchen.  Now what?

Last year, we turned in their candy to a local dentist who paid them per pound for their candy.  They each received $5 and I matched it.  The dentist sent the candy to troops overseas.  A win, win, win.

This year, I decided to post the guidelines on the dry erase board in our kitchen.

Which are the following:

1 candy = One chore chart completed.

The girls have their daily chores on myjobchart.com.  When they complete their chores, they check it off and it keeps track of the points they earned for each chore completed.  Points = prizes.
They can earn one candy for completing morning chores and one candy for completing evening chores.

1 candy = 1 Reward Dollar

As an incentive for school, the girls can earn one reward dollar for each morning they begin school on time.
They also earn one reward dollar for each A they receive for a quiz or test.  Anything that receives a grade for their report card.

1 candy = Practicing Awana sections/verses for the day

Every day, each girl spends 10-15 minutes memorizing and repeating their Awana verses and sections with me.

You may add practicing an instrument or something like that.  The girls play piano and their practice time is included in their chores.

All of these things are things they already do.  However, it just makes a Saturday more fun when you can earn candy for doing chores, Awana, etc.  :)

No whining and begging and no rotten teeth.

Happy 45th Birthday, Eric!

Happy birthday to my husband, Eric!   He turns 45 today.  I am surprising him with tickets to a Miami Dolphins game in Miami.  I got him tickets one other time years ago when we lived in Reno.  We drove to Oakland to see the Dolphins play the Raiders.  I think this will be a great memory for him and a home game too! Happy birthday, babe!

Recipe: Chicken Parmesan

Chicken Parmesan This is a delicious recipe from Magnolia Table: Volume 2. 2 boneless, skinless chicken breasts  1/4 tsp. kosher salt 1/4 tsp. freshly ground black pepper 2 large eggs 1 tsp. garlic salt 1 sleeve (30-40) buttery crackers, crushed 4 oz. Parmesan cheese, grated (about 1 cup) 2 tbsp. olive oil 1 tsp. fresh lemon juice 1/2 cup mayo 1 tbsp. chopped fresh parsley (optional) Preheat the oven to 400 degrees. (I cut the chicken breasts in half to make thinner.).  Season with salt and pepper. In a medium bowl, whisk together the eggs and garlic salt until combined.  In another bowl, combine the crackers and 1/2 cup of the Parmesan. Dredgs each chicken breast in the egg mixture, then in the cracker mixture, and set the chicken aside on a plate. In a large skillet, heat 1 tbsp of the oil over medium heat.  Add 2 pieces of the chicken and cook until the cracker coating is crispy and golden brown, 3 or 4 minutes on each side.  Remove to a sheet pan or b...
