Here is today's podcast in blog post form. :)

For our anniversary, my husband and I went on a camping trip.  The last night we camped, we stayed in Kings Canyon National Park.  On our last day, we decided to actually drive down into the canyon.

Now from the top of the canyon, it doesn’t look like much.  Very rocky, not much vegetation or trees, and just this tiny looking little river at the bottom of the canyon.  It was ok but honestly, not too impressive.

We start driving around and around to get to the bottom.  The closer we got to the bottom, the more beautiful it became.  Suddenly we came to the river again up close – wow!  It was amazing!  Just gorgeous with its white water crashing against the rocks – just amazing!  Down at the bottom of the canyon was so different from seeing it from afar.

And you can go through this Christian life viewing it from afar – never getting “too close” to really experience anything.  Just in your comfort zone.  Similar to what I said to someone about our recent Junior Camp.  You can view it afar from Facebook land and think – “Oh, that’s nice.  Look at the fun those children are having.  They must be making great memories.”  Or you can come and be a part yourself!  Because until you sit on the log around the campfire singing songs about the Lord – you are just viewing it afar.  Until you flip a hamburger for a child’s lunch or make a peanut butter and jelly sandwich – you are just viewing it afar.  Until you hear the sweet sound of a child saying a memory verse to you from the Word of God – you are just viewing it afar.  And until you decide to get down to the bottom of that canyon and see the amazing wonders of nature – you are just viewing it afar!

You see, we got down to the bottom and parked our car.  We decided to take a hike to a meadow. At the end of that trail was one of the most beautiful meadows I have ever seen.  It was so peaceful, serene, and just beautiful.  But we had to commit.  We had to get out of our car – our comfort zone- and go on a journey. And once on that journey, we couldn’t quit or we would have never made it to that meadow – the destination for that journey.  It was tiring, hot, dusty.

If you would accept any challenge – take this one!  Take that journey with God!  There may be days that you look from the top of the canyon and think – Why am I doing this?  There is no life out there.  Nothing to strive for.  The trail you venture out on may be filled with heartache, pain, struggles – but don’t forget…there is a beautiful destination waiting for you!  Don’t give up!  The journey with God is the challenge – accept it today!

Will you take the challenge?

You May Abound In Hope

Today I completed a devotional book by Candace Cameron Bure.  100 Days of Joy and Strength.  I was struggling last night.  Darkness seemed to overwhelm me.  The last day of this devotional gave me exactly the encouragement I needed to go another day. Here are the verses she shared from God's Word. "I wait for the Lord, my whole being waits, and in His word I put my hope."  Psalm 130:5 "We are afflicted in every way, but not crushed; perplexed, but not driven to despair; persecuted, but not forsaken; struck down, but not destroyed;"  II Corinthians 4:8-9 "As for me, I watch in hope for the Lord, I wait for God my Savior; my God will hear me.  Do not gloat over me, my enemy!  Though I have fallen, I will rise.  Though I sit in darkness, the Lord will be my light."  Micah 7:7-8 "I remain confident of this; I will see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living.  Wait for the Lord; be strong and take heart and wait for the Lord."  Psalm 27

Ten Tips for Sunday School Teachers

Ideas for Sunday School Teachers: 1.  Write a note to each student and mail it to their home. 2.  Visit the child in his home and bring a small treat. 3.  Make a special treat once a month for your students on Sunday. 4.  Have a Sunday School class activity on a Saturday or Sunday afternoon. 5.  Pray for your students. 6.  Have a monthly or quarterly contest for your students.  Include bringing their Bible, saying memory verses, attendance, etc.  Award small prizes. 7.  Have a special craft once a month. 8.  Rev up your teaching time!  Use props such as costumes, pictures, videos.  Make your lesson time come alive.  Teach your lesson 2-3 times during the week out loud – you will be amazed at how you will be able to teach it to your students – not just following the words in the book. 9.  After the lesson, be creative!  Students should not just be sitting and waiting for Sunday School hour to end.  You have 45 minutes each week to impact that little life.  Make e
