Roof Project 2018 - Part 1

This is the story about our roof remodel.  We bought our home ten years ago when we moved to Reno.  All the homes in our neighborhood were built 1955.  So they are older homes.  We knew it was time to redo our roof so we saved up the budget to do so and decided to do it at the beginning of my husband's sabbatical.

When we planned out the logistics of redoing the roof, we figured that we would have to rent a dumpster for the tear off.  We figured one dumpster would be sufficient.  We have a good friend that allowed us to use this truck from their company instead and wow.  It turned out to be the biggest blessing of the project!  We were able to back it right up to the garage roof and that helped so much.

This was what our old roof looked like.

And so the tear off begins!

As we started to tear off the layers, wow.  I think there was three layers of shingles plus this insulation board stuff.  Which crumbled into little pieces.  It was a mess and so heavy to tear off.  This is why it took us so long to tear off with all the layers and this crazy layer!

The wheelbarrow was definitely put to use!  We had to have it to transport all that fiberboard to the dump truck.

You see all that we had to tear off?  Crazy!!

Well, needless to say, all those extra layers and fiberboard that we took off filled up the dump truck VERY fast.  So once it was full (and we still had a long way to go!), we made a trip to the dump.  We weren't sure what they were going to charge us - they couldn't quote us over the phone.  Well, another huge blessing when we got there!  The employee took my ID and came back with a receipt.  Here in our county, they will give you four free dumps a year.  (The size of a pick-up truck)  Well, we haven't used any and I thought maybe he would use what we had and that would give us a discount.  He used only two of our four free dumps and no charge!  Praise the Lord!

Again, this truck with a hydraulic lift, was amazing!  It would have taken us SOO much longer if we would have had to shovel all this material out of the truck after we had just filled it.  What a blessing!

Slow go process and just a lot of elbow grease and hard work.

Finally...we see clearing!!

Part two tomorrow!

You May Abound In Hope

Today I completed a devotional book by Candace Cameron Bure.  100 Days of Joy and Strength.  I was struggling last night.  Darkness seemed to overwhelm me.  The last day of this devotional gave me exactly the encouragement I needed to go another day. Here are the verses she shared from God's Word. "I wait for the Lord, my whole being waits, and in His word I put my hope."  Psalm 130:5 "We are afflicted in every way, but not crushed; perplexed, but not driven to despair; persecuted, but not forsaken; struck down, but not destroyed;"  II Corinthians 4:8-9 "As for me, I watch in hope for the Lord, I wait for God my Savior; my God will hear me.  Do not gloat over me, my enemy!  Though I have fallen, I will rise.  Though I sit in darkness, the Lord will be my light."  Micah 7:7-8 "I remain confident of this; I will see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living.  Wait for the Lord; be strong and take heart and wait for the Lord."  Psalm 27

Ten Tips for Sunday School Teachers

Ideas for Sunday School Teachers: 1.  Write a note to each student and mail it to their home. 2.  Visit the child in his home and bring a small treat. 3.  Make a special treat once a month for your students on Sunday. 4.  Have a Sunday School class activity on a Saturday or Sunday afternoon. 5.  Pray for your students. 6.  Have a monthly or quarterly contest for your students.  Include bringing their Bible, saying memory verses, attendance, etc.  Award small prizes. 7.  Have a special craft once a month. 8.  Rev up your teaching time!  Use props such as costumes, pictures, videos.  Make your lesson time come alive.  Teach your lesson 2-3 times during the week out loud – you will be amazed at how you will be able to teach it to your students – not just following the words in the book. 9.  After the lesson, be creative!  Students should not just be sitting and waiting for Sunday School hour to end.  You have 45 minutes each week to impact that little life.  Make e
