Sabbatical - Week Two - Summit Christian

The second week of our sabbatical we went to Summit Christian Church. This is one of the largest churches in Reno/Sparks. Unlike Granite Hills last week, we have never been to Summit before.

I have to say that Summit has it spot on for a visiting person. Everywhere you go, you are greeted professionally and with a smile. You could tell who to ask if you had a question - find a person with a lanyard or a logo on their shirt. And they were everywhere! I really, really appreciated the entire experience!

I also really enjoyed the pastor's sermon on joy that day. It was practical, applicable, and he used so many Scriptures.

Main auditorium - they have three Sunday services as well as one Saturday evening.

Financial Peace University - so excited to see churches offering this! It is so vital to every person to manage their finances well to God's glory.

Great experience at Summit!
Then it was off to Wal-Mart for jean shopping for fall/winter and then to Dickey's for a special lunch out. :)

You May Abound In Hope

Today I completed a devotional book by Candace Cameron Bure. 100 Days of Joy and Strength. I was struggling last night. Darkness seemed to overwhelm me. The last day of this devotional gave me exactly the encouragement I needed to go another day. Here are the verses she shared from God's Word. "I wait for the Lord, my whole being waits, and in His word I put my hope." Psalm 130:5 "We are afflicted in every way, but not crushed; perplexed, but not driven to despair; persecuted, but not forsaken; struck down, but not destroyed;" II Corinthians 4:8-9 "As for me, I watch in hope for the Lord, I wait for God my Savior; my God will hear me. Do not gloat over me, my enemy! Though I have fallen, I will rise. Though I sit in darkness, the Lord will be my light." Micah 7:7-8 "I remain confident of this; I will see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living. Wait for the Lord; be strong and take heart and wait for the Lord." Psalm 27

Ten Tips for Sunday School Teachers

Ideas for Sunday School Teachers: 1. Write a note to each student and mail it to their home. 2. Visit the child in his home and bring a small treat. 3. Make a special treat once a month for your students on Sunday. 4. Have a Sunday School class activity on a Saturday or Sunday afternoon. 5. Pray for your students. 6. Have a monthly or quarterly contest for your students. Include bringing their Bible, saying memory verses, attendance, etc. Award small prizes. 7. Have a special craft once a month. 8. Rev up your teaching time! Use props such as costumes, pictures, videos. Make your lesson time come alive. Teach your lesson 2-3 times during the week out loud – you will be amazed at how you will be able to teach it to your students – not just following the words in the book. 9.
