New Tires, Broken Window Motor and a Freezing Rain Storm

Our winter weather is relatively mild here in Newberg, OR compared to some areas of the country.  We did have a cold snap in December.  It didn't get out of the 20s during the day - that's cold for us.  LOL!

Brownie's water froze several times.

Well, it didn't snow.  It dropped freezing rain/sleet.  It made for a very messy situation.  We were hoping that it would have held off until after all the family got home from work that day.  Eric had to drive to the coast and made it there safely and back.  The freezing rain began around 4ish.  Autumn was supposed to get off at 6 and Addie at 7pm.
We wanted the girls to be safe but it being after dark, Eric and I went first to Hobby Lobby.  We had Autumn drive to Cracker Barrel in the Volvo.  When we got to Cracker Barrel, Eric rode with Addie in the Cruze.  This gave us time to walk them through driving on ice while we were with them and they were experiencing it for themselves.  When we got back to Hobby Lobby, I rode with Autumn home as she drove.  Addie drove the Cruze by herself and Eric drove his work vehicle.  We made it home safely and I think it was a great experience for our girls.

The freezing rain continued through the night.  The kitties were nice and warm though inside. :)

Another audiobook finished!

The girls are hoping to go on a missions trip with their youth group this summer.  Eric and I got these neat banks so they can save for their trip.

The freezing rain was very loud as it fell.

The college kid and her cat.

Max is so funny.  He loves snow and when he is out in it, he loves to eat it as we walk along.  Well, he kept trying to eat the snow but it was just frozen so he was scraping it with his teeth.

On Friday, Eric was off work due to the weather.  I needed to run a few errands - get a few things for Christmas.  So he said he would go with me.  We hadn't even left Newberg and we stopped at Fred Meyer to get gas.  He puts down his window and it wouldn't go back up.
Sigh.  You could hear the motor going.  Long story short and five places later, he found a place to fix it.  To the tune of $340.  So frustrating and right before Christmas.  Eric walked over to Starbucks and got us a white chocolate mocha while we waited for the repair.

This happened after, just two days before, I got new tires for my Volvo XC90 for $600.  And then a repair on the Volvo for $500.  Not a very good week in the Tastet house in the vehicle area.

A little something I enjoyed this season was on Facebook Live.  Dean Butler, the actor who played Almanzo Wilder on the show Little House on the Prairie, did several readings from the book, Farmer Boy.  On December 23rd, he read the chapter about Christmas when Almanzo was a boy.  It was so neat!

Abeka Homeschool had a 12 day giveaway.  I probably won't win but it was fun to enter every day hoping!

Happy 45th Birthday, Eric!

Happy birthday to my husband, Eric!   He turns 45 today.  I am surprising him with tickets to a Miami Dolphins game in Miami.  I got him tickets one other time years ago when we lived in Reno.  We drove to Oakland to see the Dolphins play the Raiders.  I think this will be a great memory for him and a home game too! Happy birthday, babe!

Recipe: Chicken Parmesan

Chicken Parmesan This is a delicious recipe from Magnolia Table: Volume 2. 2 boneless, skinless chicken breasts  1/4 tsp. kosher salt 1/4 tsp. freshly ground black pepper 2 large eggs 1 tsp. garlic salt 1 sleeve (30-40) buttery crackers, crushed 4 oz. Parmesan cheese, grated (about 1 cup) 2 tbsp. olive oil 1 tsp. fresh lemon juice 1/2 cup mayo 1 tbsp. chopped fresh parsley (optional) Preheat the oven to 400 degrees. (I cut the chicken breasts in half to make thinner.).  Season with salt and pepper. In a medium bowl, whisk together the eggs and garlic salt until combined.  In another bowl, combine the crackers and 1/2 cup of the Parmesan. Dredgs each chicken breast in the egg mixture, then in the cracker mixture, and set the chicken aside on a plate. In a large skillet, heat 1 tbsp of the oil over medium heat.  Add 2 pieces of the chicken and cook until the cracker coating is crispy and golden brown, 3 or 4 minutes on each side.  Remove to a sheet pan or b...
