Visit to Downtown Portland

Saturday, May 29th, we went as a family to downtown Portland.

New site for us - Pioneer Courthouse Square - basically a large outdoor gathering place.

You have to visit Powell's bookstore if you go to Portland!  It is one gigantic bookstore.  It is pretty cool.  They have rooms and rooms of books - new and old.  If you are a reader or love books - you need to go here. :)

Sadly, this is how much of Portland is right now after all the riots.  Boarded up and graffitied buildings.  Businesses that have gone out of business.

Oh, have I mentioned those tents on the streets downtown?  Just homeless people living there.

We also went to the Oregon Historical Society that is downtown.  It is a museum that has the history of the state of Oregon.  It is very well done and updated.

If you have interest in state history and are in Oregon, visit The Oregon Historical Society.  It is well done and will give you a thorough synopsis on Oregon history.

(Yes, there is a liberal slant to their history.  Be prepared.)

And, we ended with a delicious meal at our favorite -

Chick-Fil-A!

You May Abound In Hope

Today I completed a devotional book by Candace Cameron Bure.  100 Days of Joy and Strength.  I was struggling last night.  Darkness seemed to overwhelm me.  The last day of this devotional gave me exactly the encouragement I needed to go another day. Here are the verses she shared from God's Word. "I wait for the Lord, my whole being waits, and in His word I put my hope."  Psalm 130:5 "We are afflicted in every way, but not crushed; perplexed, but not driven to despair; persecuted, but not forsaken; struck down, but not destroyed;"  II Corinthians 4:8-9 "As for me, I watch in hope for the Lord, I wait for God my Savior; my God will hear me.  Do not gloat over me, my enemy!  Though I have fallen, I will rise.  Though I sit in darkness, the Lord will be my light."  Micah 7:7-8 "I remain confident of this; I will see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living.  Wait for the Lord; be strong and take heart and wait for the Lord."...
