Captain Jack Gets a New Name!

So we have been contemplating giving Captain Jack a new name since he adopted us.  Yes, we didn't adopt him, he adopted us!  LOL!
Captain Jack was a stray cat that came around once in a while.  He would meow and wait and we would give him a bowl of cat food.  He would eat and then saunter away.  He was not feral - he didn't seem afraid of humans at all. One time, he showed up and his leg was torn up and mangled.  I didn't try to help him because a hurt animal may strike out.

Well, near the end of fall, he came around and he was very thin and bony.  We fed him and he stuck around the house.  I would go outside and sit on the steps just to spend time with him.  He loved it.

Summer and I named him Captain Jack because he seemed like this grizzled old sailor who had been through a lot in his life.

Since we had already gotten Brownie fixed, I thought perhaps we could get this cat done as well.  After he was neutered, they told us to keep him inside for ten days for him to heal.  Well, he was so good inside and just loved being around us. After he healed, it was getting cold at night.  He didn't want to go back to living outside.  So we let him stay.  And stay he did.

He has made himself a part of our family.  We don't know how old he is.  We originally thought he was older than he probably is.  He is a bigger boy.  I think he may have some Russian Blue breed in him.  His gray color, the downy fur, and the stripes in his tail.  We don't know his history.  He must have had a home and family at some point.  He's so friendly and sweet.  So, we wonder if someone just left him.  He didn't have a microchip and of course, was not neutered.

The girls came up with a new name - Hoss. :)
From one of the Cartwright boys on the show Bonanza.

Hoss was the biggest but was a big teddy bear.  He was so sweet.
So is our cat-Hoss.  He's just a sweetheart.

But Hoss could hold his own and would fight if needed.
Our Hoss also lived on the street and can hold his own for sure.

The Cartwright family was respected by all.  Even Max respects our Hoss and gives him space.  LOL!  Which is saying a lot!  Max has always been the aggressive one.

Hoss always made it clear when he was hungry.  So does our Hoss.  He will meow at you and follow you right between your legs until you acknowledge what he wants.  LOL!  But before he will eat, he will purr and rub against you showing his thanks.

So, this is now Hoss. :)

Of course, we still have our spicy, sassy Figgy!

Happy 45th Birthday, Eric!

Happy birthday to my husband, Eric!   He turns 45 today.  I am surprising him with tickets to a Miami Dolphins game in Miami.  I got him tickets one other time years ago when we lived in Reno.  We drove to Oakland to see the Dolphins play the Raiders.  I think this will be a great memory for him and a home game too! Happy birthday, babe!

Recipe: Chicken Parmesan

Chicken Parmesan This is a delicious recipe from Magnolia Table: Volume 2. 2 boneless, skinless chicken breasts  1/4 tsp. kosher salt 1/4 tsp. freshly ground black pepper 2 large eggs 1 tsp. garlic salt 1 sleeve (30-40) buttery crackers, crushed 4 oz. Parmesan cheese, grated (about 1 cup) 2 tbsp. olive oil 1 tsp. fresh lemon juice 1/2 cup mayo 1 tbsp. chopped fresh parsley (optional) Preheat the oven to 400 degrees. (I cut the chicken breasts in half to make thinner.).  Season with salt and pepper. In a medium bowl, whisk together the eggs and garlic salt until combined.  In another bowl, combine the crackers and 1/2 cup of the Parmesan. Dredgs each chicken breast in the egg mixture, then in the cracker mixture, and set the chicken aside on a plate. In a large skillet, heat 1 tbsp of the oil over medium heat.  Add 2 pieces of the chicken and cook until the cracker coating is crispy and golden brown, 3 or 4 minutes on each side.  Remove to a sheet pan or b...
