Laura Ingalls Wilder Home - Rocky Ridge Farmhouse, Missouri

The second thing we did was to tour the
Rocky Ridge Farmhouse.

The lane to the farmhouse.

Coming back from the Rock House.

Chickens at the farmhouse.  Laura raised chickens and wrote about her methods in articles.

The outside of the farmhouse.

Side screened-in porch.

Front porch.

"A farm kitchen must be more than merely kitchen; it is the place where the house and barn meet," Laura wrote in "My Ozark Kitchen" for Country Gentleman magazine in 1925.  The room looks much as it did when she wrote that article except she added an electric range for summer cooking in the late 1930s.

Notice the low baking cabinet between the two large windows.  Laura was less than five feet tall, and the height of the cabinet was perfect for her.

How tall we were next to Laura.

Sierra was close. :)

They built a pass-through from the kitchen to the dining room.  Fun!

The pass-through looking from the dining room side.

Dining room table.

Her old dishes are so interesting from that era.

Decor from Laura's home.  Rose closed up her house when they died and left it as it was.

The linoleum.

Laura's writing desk in the farmhouse.

Example the original wallpaper - on the desk - they replaced it with as close as they could.  So pretty!

Old mail - letters - cards of Laura's.

From her publisher!  Harper & Brothers.

Pretty vintage birthday card.
It is also neat how they only put the town as the address.

Photo of Pa's fiddle.

Stairs from the living room leading up to second floor.

Sitting room.

Organ.  Mary was the one who played the organ but we were told that Laura played a little as well.

Talking Machine Company!  IYKYK - Little House on the Prairie episode with Laura and Nellie and the talking machine.

Birthday card for Laura.
Many signatures and well wishes.

I love the old vintage covers of books.

A little library nook in their living room.  What beautiful built-ins Almanzo made for their home.

The library nook - you walk in the left to enter.

The living room where Almanzo and Laura would have sat.

A cozy spot for Laura to sit and enjoy the afternoon sun.

Probably one of my favorite spots in the home.  I love the windows, the trees and the lawn view, a little spot to sit and work or enjoy!

I love those pictures on the wall!

Dining room.

Almanzo and Laura built this home.  I love the creativity in the kitchen.  They seemed to maximize the small space.  Windows on both sides with window seats.  Storage under the seats.  Cabinets in between the windows and seats with a small counter space.  Snugly fit in fridge.  The built-in cabinet above the fridge.  Shelves built in above windows.

I LOVE this!  Such a great piece of history left hanging just as it was when Laura passed away.

Laura's items that she baked with!
I also have that cookbook. :)

A little office with a couch and desk.

This piece of art is actually from one of Rose's books.  That was depicting her parents.

In Laura's house!!

The ceiling was so neat!

Laura and Almanzo on their Rocky Ridge Farm.

We LOVED, LOVED, LOVED coming here!

Does it feel surreal to you to be standing at the same place someone in history did?  Where they lived.  It always does to me.

Happy 45th Birthday, Eric!

Happy birthday to my husband, Eric!   He turns 45 today.  I am surprising him with tickets to a Miami Dolphins game in Miami.  I got him tickets one other time years ago when we lived in Reno.  We drove to Oakland to see the Dolphins play the Raiders.  I think this will be a great memory for him and a home game too! Happy birthday, babe!

Recipe: Chicken Parmesan

Chicken Parmesan This is a delicious recipe from Magnolia Table: Volume 2. 2 boneless, skinless chicken breasts  1/4 tsp. kosher salt 1/4 tsp. freshly ground black pepper 2 large eggs 1 tsp. garlic salt 1 sleeve (30-40) buttery crackers, crushed 4 oz. Parmesan cheese, grated (about 1 cup) 2 tbsp. olive oil 1 tsp. fresh lemon juice 1/2 cup mayo 1 tbsp. chopped fresh parsley (optional) Preheat the oven to 400 degrees. (I cut the chicken breasts in half to make thinner.).  Season with salt and pepper. In a medium bowl, whisk together the eggs and garlic salt until combined.  In another bowl, combine the crackers and 1/2 cup of the Parmesan. Dredgs each chicken breast in the egg mixture, then in the cracker mixture, and set the chicken aside on a plate. In a large skillet, heat 1 tbsp of the oil over medium heat.  Add 2 pieces of the chicken and cook until the cracker coating is crispy and golden brown, 3 or 4 minutes on each side.  Remove to a sheet pan or b...
