It Is Just Jesus

Yesterday, I spent some time thinking as I was cleaning and organizing at our new church building.

I thought about how it seems God is on the verge of "blowing it out of the water".  The phrase, blowing it out of the water, means to utterly destroy something, such as a plan.

Hmm...boy, do we young pastors and pastor's wives have plans?  We learned all the "techniques" and "procedures" in college.  We have a little life experience in this thing.  Now for the "plan" to just work.

Nope.  God doesn't work that way.
Can you recall any two times that Jesus healed someone...the same way?  One person he made to dip in muddy water seven times.  One person he put spit and mud on their eyes.  One person had to touch the hem of his garment.

Why didn't Jesus simply say..."All blind folks who want to be healed - follow this five step procedure for healing."?

Maybe it was because he wanted to show that...

It isn't in methods.
It isn't in traditions.
It isn't in a plan.

It is just Jesus.

Do you have a financial plan of getting out of debt today?  Do you have a method for rearing your children?  Do you have a plan for building your youth group or Connection Group?  Are you steeped in traditions for building that church?

We have a new building, new music pastor, new hospitality ministry, new nursery facility, new church calendar...and oh so much more.  But that isn't what is going to blow it out of the water for Sierra View.

Plans, methods and traditions are good.
Just don't forget in working those...
it is just Jesus.

You May Abound In Hope

Today I completed a devotional book by Candace Cameron Bure.  100 Days of Joy and Strength.  I was struggling last night.  Darkness seemed to overwhelm me.  The last day of this devotional gave me exactly the encouragement I needed to go another day. Here are the verses she shared from God's Word. "I wait for the Lord, my whole being waits, and in His word I put my hope."  Psalm 130:5 "We are afflicted in every way, but not crushed; perplexed, but not driven to despair; persecuted, but not forsaken; struck down, but not destroyed;"  II Corinthians 4:8-9 "As for me, I watch in hope for the Lord, I wait for God my Savior; my God will hear me.  Do not gloat over me, my enemy!  Though I have fallen, I will rise.  Though I sit in darkness, the Lord will be my light."  Micah 7:7-8 "I remain confident of this; I will see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living.  Wait for the Lord; be strong and take heart and wait for the Lord."  Psalm 27

Ten Tips for Sunday School Teachers

Ideas for Sunday School Teachers: 1.  Write a note to each student and mail it to their home. 2.  Visit the child in his home and bring a small treat. 3.  Make a special treat once a month for your students on Sunday. 4.  Have a Sunday School class activity on a Saturday or Sunday afternoon. 5.  Pray for your students. 6.  Have a monthly or quarterly contest for your students.  Include bringing their Bible, saying memory verses, attendance, etc.  Award small prizes. 7.  Have a special craft once a month. 8.  Rev up your teaching time!  Use props such as costumes, pictures, videos.  Make your lesson time come alive.  Teach your lesson 2-3 times during the week out loud – you will be amazed at how you will be able to teach it to your students – not just following the words in the book. 9.  After the lesson, be creative!  Students should not just be sitting and waiting for Sunday School hour to end.  You have 45 minutes each week to impact that little life.  Make e
