Freshening Up My Porch for Fall

Monday, September 23

What a day!  I had scheduled an appointment to have a new key/fob made for our Volvo.  I showed up at the place at 9:15am.  The gentleman couldn't find my name or number in his system.  After ten minutes of trying to find me and put me in the system, he realized that I had gone to O'Steen Volkswagon instead of O'Steen Volvo.  Sigh.
So I get to the dealership late.  Then they didn't have both parts of the key to do it for my vehicle.  No one ordered it.  Another sigh.  So they ordered it with me standing there (wow).  And said they would call me when it comes in.  So I will have to make another trip there.  Groan.

After the dealership, I stopped at CVS.  They had their Scott's TP on sale for $8.99 and I had $16 in ECB to use so it worked out perfect.  Then I went to Wal-Mart and did my grocery shopping for the week.  I stopped at the library to pick up a hold but it wasn't open yet.  Then I stopped at Auto Zone and ordered a new gas cap for my Volvo.

In the afternoon, I decided to mow and trim the lawn.  I had planned on doing it on Tuesday but just decided to get a head start and ended up doing the whole thing.  Thankfully, it was not as long and thick and WET as the last couple of times.  I had to do three laps, stop the mower, clean it out, and start again.  It was so slow and tiring.

Last of my jalapenos.

A funny thing happened: a neighbor lady saw me mowing and came over to ask if I would mow her lawn.  Why not?  So I did her lawn as well.  Since I was on a roll, I tidied up the front porch.  Swept, gave the chairs a fresh coat of white spray paint, switched out the pillows, wreath, and sign, and planted mums into my hanging planters.

I was hot, got a lot of sun, and filthy but I felt good for all I accomplished.  I made spicy chicken sandwiches and white cheddar pasta for dinner.

Nugget likes to look out the front windows.  Jackson decided to take her spot and make it his napping place.  Look at her looking at him.  So funny!

New fall pillows for my rocking chairs. :)

You May Abound In Hope

Today I completed a devotional book by Candace Cameron Bure.  100 Days of Joy and Strength.  I was struggling last night.  Darkness seemed to overwhelm me.  The last day of this devotional gave me exactly the encouragement I needed to go another day. Here are the verses she shared from God's Word. "I wait for the Lord, my whole being waits, and in His word I put my hope."  Psalm 130:5 "We are afflicted in every way, but not crushed; perplexed, but not driven to despair; persecuted, but not forsaken; struck down, but not destroyed;"  II Corinthians 4:8-9 "As for me, I watch in hope for the Lord, I wait for God my Savior; my God will hear me.  Do not gloat over me, my enemy!  Though I have fallen, I will rise.  Though I sit in darkness, the Lord will be my light."  Micah 7:7-8 "I remain confident of this; I will see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living.  Wait for the Lord; be strong and take heart and wait for the Lord."  Psalm 27

Ten Tips for Sunday School Teachers

Ideas for Sunday School Teachers: 1.  Write a note to each student and mail it to their home. 2.  Visit the child in his home and bring a small treat. 3.  Make a special treat once a month for your students on Sunday. 4.  Have a Sunday School class activity on a Saturday or Sunday afternoon. 5.  Pray for your students. 6.  Have a monthly or quarterly contest for your students.  Include bringing their Bible, saying memory verses, attendance, etc.  Award small prizes. 7.  Have a special craft once a month. 8.  Rev up your teaching time!  Use props such as costumes, pictures, videos.  Make your lesson time come alive.  Teach your lesson 2-3 times during the week out loud – you will be amazed at how you will be able to teach it to your students – not just following the words in the book. 9.  After the lesson, be creative!  Students should not just be sitting and waiting for Sunday School hour to end.  You have 45 minutes each week to impact that little life.  Make e
