Holiday Events 2018: Nevada Museum of Art

Saturday was another day for a Christmas activity.  The weather was so bleh.  It has looked like this since Wednesday when we got that snow.  These low lying clouds into the valley and we didn't see the sun for days.  It was quite depressing after so long!

We dropped off Addie at work and then did some shopping at Old Navy for some items for our family photo at the end of the month.  That took longer than I wanted to but we got some things.

The Nevada Museum of Art was having a holiday hands on day with free admission to the museum as well.  The first one we did was a felt Christmas ornament station.

The next station we went to was painting star ornaments.

The third station we went to was a snowman sculpting station.  This was fun!

They had free hot apple cider - so good!  It was a really fun activity and one we always enjoy!

We had to do a few shopping errands so we picked up Grant and brought him along.  I had been promising to take him to Wal-Mart. :)

It was a busy and long day.  We picked up Addie after shopping.  We ended the day with one of my favorite Christmas movies - "Miracle on 34th Street".  And inside where it was warm!

Holiday Events 2018: 39 North and Tintabulations

On my list of family activities for the holiday season was 39 North at the Victorian Square in Sparks.  We did this event last year and enjoyed it.  This year just Autumn and Summer went with me.  And boy, was it cold!

One of the reasons I wanted to go was to hear the handbell choir, Tintabulations perform.  They were fantastic!  Handbell ensembles truly are beautiful and this was a wonderful concert they gave.

They had some beautiful lights but we were sad that the train was not running.  That was Summer's favorite from last year.

We enjoyed the concert and the lights and stopped for some mini churros on the way home and finished up the night with a Christmas movie. :)

Snowy December Days

My sister, Rachel, sent me this awesome mug!  I couldn't wait to use it!  It's just perfect. :)

One of our favorite Christmas movies - Elf!

I got a new Bible for 2019 - it is a journaling Bible so it has space for note taking, stickers, coloring and more.  I started it a couple weeks ago and really enjoy it!
I like the Twistables colored pencils for highlighting verses.  They don't bleed through and have a lot of pretty choices.

We brought in our real tree and put it in the dining room.  It is way bigger than what it seemed outside.  It look gigantic in comparison to our fake tree.  LOL!

Our dog, Belle.  I swear she is the comfort of all comfort seekers!  LOL!

Wednesday morning, we were surprised with a beautiful snow!  Our boss gave us an extra two hour late start so I actually was home to enjoy the scene.  It was such a nice morning!

Just beautiful!

I just love beautiful snows in the winter. :)

Holiday Events 2018: Christmas Hometown Parade and Christmas Tuba Concert

I wanted to share another post about more of our family Christmas events that we are doing this season. :)

Saturday morning started off snowy!  I figured we might be pretty cold for the Christmas parade!

We dropped off Addie at work, had lunch at Subway and then went to the parade.  It was at Victorian Square in Sparks.

The weather cleared and it was a beautiful day!  The sunshine warmed us up nicely!

It was the first time to go to this parade so I am glad we went and experienced it.  The crowds and some of the people around us made it distasteful but all in all, a good experience.

After the parade, we went to another family holiday event that I had scheduled.  It was a Christmas Tuba Concert at the Wilbur May Museum here in Reno.  We learned that the first Christmas Tuba Concert was held in New York City's Rockefeller Plaza Ice Rink in 1974.  They are now held all over the world but this is the only one in Northern Nevada.  They played many Christmas songs - many about the Lord.  They invited the audience to sing along.  That is Summer with her song sheet singing along below.

I think it is a wonderful experience for children to be exposed to different types of musical events.  So much of that is missing in the culture of music today.  If you have a chance, research and find events like these and take your kids and grandkids.  It was neat to see and hear all the types of tubas and to enjoy a concert.  Great time!
