Hurricane Idalia Has Passed

Hurricane Idalia 2023 has passed Florida.

Here in Jacksonville, it was just a tropical storm.  We had some wind and about an inch of rain at our house.  It was really mild compared to what we expected.  I am grateful we were safe and had no damage.

We have work and school today.  Tomorrow, the girls and I will be driving from Florida to Ohio to visit my parents for a couple days.  :)  Lots to do today so I better get started.

Goodbye August!

How is it the end of August already?  It seemed to go very quickly for me!

Our 16th year of homeschooling has begun!

Our oldest in her junior year of college.

Our second graduated and working full time.

Our third full month living in Florida.

And our first tropical storm/hurricane experience!

Goodbye August!

My Week: August 14-18

Monday, August 14 - Well, it is finally here!  Our first day of school of 2023-24.  That is our main focus for today.  I'll be honest - I am always glad to have the first day come and get back into schedule.  It feels good.

It was also Autumn's first day of work at a new job.  She is doing cleaning and after-preschool care at Turning Point Christian Academy.  She will be working full time from 9am-6pm Monday-Friday.

Summer wanted to make her dish Feta Noodles Pasta Dish.  I will share that recipe tomorrow.

Oh Jackson.

What happens the day after you go to the ocean.  Sand everywhere!!

Tuesday, August 15 - School-Day 2!

Using our community gym for PE class.

I made Mexican Garden Salad for dinner.

Summer named our duck friend, Fred.  He was so sweet.  When you talked to him, his butt and tail feathers would wag in happiness.

Girls like to decorate their notes for class.

It's nice that we can walk to our community gym and pool.  When we don't have a car.

The storm clouds looked pretty cool!

View of the pool from inside the gym.

Giving Fred a treat.

It was thundering and ready to rain so we started to book it home!

Wednesday, August 16 - School-Day 3!  I took Eric to the airport at 8am to catch his flight to New York City.  They have their big event - Aspire there tomorrow.

I decided to get the mowing and trimming done today.  That takes several hours.  Of course, drenched in sweat!  Ha.

For dinner, I made lemon rice soup and grilled cheese.  I then took Sierra and Summer to youth group at 6:15pm and attended Bible study.

Pastor David teaching the teens.

Thursday, August 17 - School-Day 4!  Early, I did weeding.  MORE weeding.  It wasn't bad starting out.  A little cooler and overcast.  But did heat up.  Listened to a podcast and talked to my sister for awhile.

Eric was in New York City.  At 3:30pm, I took Summer to the Frosting Lab at the library.  I made two bacon and mushroom quiches for dinner.

Weeding done for now.  Ugh.

Friday, August 18 - School-Day 5!  Our first week of the school year completed.  We finally got our last set of books today too.  Long story on that.

After school, Sierra, Summer and I went swimming.  It was a beautiful afternoon. I made jambalaya for dinner.  I had to go to the airport to pick up Eric at 6:15pm.

Gave Max a bath and always chuckle how fluffy and thick his neck is.

Beautiful sunset!

Beautiful ending to the work week.

Hurricane Idalia 2023

Well, here we are with our first experience with a tropical storm/hurricane. We will probably miss the central path of the hurricane but will definitely get some wind and rain.  Things are beginning to close down in preparation for the hurricane arriving tomorrow.  Will keep you updated today and tomorrow.
