Here is today's podcast in blog post form. :)

I love this time of the year.  The weather is getting nicer and it is so pleasant to be outside planting and gardening.  My girls love to help me plant seeds and vegetable plants and flowers.  That’s the fun and easy part.  The hard part is then the waiting!

After you plant your seeds, you have that period of…are those seeds going to sprout?  Are they going to grow into what we hope them to be?  Healthy and vibrant as well as plants that produce?  I mean, plants are great and all, but what would the purpose be if they never produced flowers or vegetables?  Is all that labor going to be in vain?

Time.  And care.  That is what those plants need.  And that is what most people need too.  Being a mom – it is easy to look at your child and worry.  Will my children be able to make it?  Am I giving them the resources that they need to thrive?  What if they choose a different path than I would like them to take?  Here is a few thoughts…

First, just like plants need the sun, your children need the “Son”. Make Jesus real in your family’s lives.  Don’t just let it be something that you do on Sunday.  Make Him the center of your family.

Second, children, like plants, need to be “pruned” and the soil around them tilled up from time to time.  Life ain’t easy.  Let them experience hard situations.  Teach them respect, character, diligence.  Discipline when needed.  These are tough years and it takes a tough parent to make it through.  But when you stick with it, your children will thank you later.

Lastly, they need “rain”.  I think of rain as those times of refreshment.  Fun and happy times.  Sweet memories.

So the challenge today is to all you moms – don’t stress too much over what college your child is going to attend in 18 years.  Don’t stress what career they will choose.  Take one step at a time.  Focus your family on Jesus.  Stay with it and be that tough parent.  And don’t forget to create those happy, fun times together!

Will you take the challenge?

You May Abound In Hope

Today I completed a devotional book by Candace Cameron Bure.  100 Days of Joy and Strength.  I was struggling last night.  Darkness seemed to overwhelm me.  The last day of this devotional gave me exactly the encouragement I needed to go another day. Here are the verses she shared from God's Word. "I wait for the Lord, my whole being waits, and in His word I put my hope."  Psalm 130:5 "We are afflicted in every way, but not crushed; perplexed, but not driven to despair; persecuted, but not forsaken; struck down, but not destroyed;"  II Corinthians 4:8-9 "As for me, I watch in hope for the Lord, I wait for God my Savior; my God will hear me.  Do not gloat over me, my enemy!  Though I have fallen, I will rise.  Though I sit in darkness, the Lord will be my light."  Micah 7:7-8 "I remain confident of this; I will see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living.  Wait for the Lord; be strong and take heart and wait for the Lord."...

Ten Tips for Sunday School Teachers

Ideas for Sunday School Teachers: 1.  Write a note to each student and mail it to their home. 2.  Visit the child in his home and bring a small treat. 3.  Make a special treat once a month for your students on Sunday. 4.  Have a Sunday School class activity on a Saturday or Sunday afternoon. 5.  Pray for your students. 6.  Have a monthly or quarterly contest for your students.  Include bringing their Bible, saying memory verses, attendance, etc.  Award small prizes. 7.  Have a special craft once a month. 8.  Rev up your teaching time!  Use props such as costumes, pictures, videos.  Make your lesson time come alive.  Teach your lesson 2-3 times during the week out loud – you will be amazed at how you will be able to teach it to your students – not just following the words in the book. 9.  After the lesson, be creative!  Students should not just be sitting and waiting for Sunday School hour ...
