Here is today's podcast in blog post form. :)

Our family is going on a short road trip to Fairfield, CA tomorrow.  Just a couple of days – my husband will be preaching for a pastor friend there.

Our children’s pastor asked me this week – what kind of snacks would the girls like for your trip?  He said, “I know Addie likes Flaming Hot Cheetos.”  I started to chuckle when I read that comment.  You see, our last road trip camping, we were on our way to the beautiful Redwoods.  We had barely crossed over into California and a couple of the girls started to get car sick.  The joys of kids!  Ha!  Well, when Addie got sick and started vomiting, she was exclaiming, “Oh, it’s hot!” in between her hurls.  Meaning, the hot Cheetos coming back up was not very pleasant.  And obviously, they still hold their quality of being hot!

It was all my husband and I could do to keep from bursting out laughing in the front seat!  Oh yeah, there are definitely many moments like that as parents and you know it too!  Here your kid is throwing up and you can’t keep your laughter in.

But you know what?  That bad experience hasn’t deterred my daughter’s love for hot Cheetos.  She still loves them and would eat them every day if she could.

So what is the lesson in this weird story?  Sometimes, you are just gonna have a bad experience.  Give it another chance.  I thought of choosing a church in this scenario.  There are no perfect churches because churches are ran by imperfect people.  People sometimes decide to leave over experiences.  Yes, they may be valid.  But most of the time, if we just take some time to chew on it – we are able to think a little clearer and realize – It wasn’t really a big deal.  Things are just gonna happen and that’s ok.

So the challenge is – this Sunday, if something happens that hurts your feelings…discourage you…anger you – take some time before you react.  Give it another chance!

Will you take the challenge?

You May Abound In Hope

Today I completed a devotional book by Candace Cameron Bure.  100 Days of Joy and Strength.  I was struggling last night.  Darkness seemed to overwhelm me.  The last day of this devotional gave me exactly the encouragement I needed to go another day. Here are the verses she shared from God's Word. "I wait for the Lord, my whole being waits, and in His word I put my hope."  Psalm 130:5 "We are afflicted in every way, but not crushed; perplexed, but not driven to despair; persecuted, but not forsaken; struck down, but not destroyed;"  II Corinthians 4:8-9 "As for me, I watch in hope for the Lord, I wait for God my Savior; my God will hear me.  Do not gloat over me, my enemy!  Though I have fallen, I will rise.  Though I sit in darkness, the Lord will be my light."  Micah 7:7-8 "I remain confident of this; I will see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living.  Wait for the Lord; be strong and take heart and wait for the Lord."...

Ten Tips for Sunday School Teachers

Ideas for Sunday School Teachers: 1.  Write a note to each student and mail it to their home. 2.  Visit the child in his home and bring a small treat. 3.  Make a special treat once a month for your students on Sunday. 4.  Have a Sunday School class activity on a Saturday or Sunday afternoon. 5.  Pray for your students. 6.  Have a monthly or quarterly contest for your students.  Include bringing their Bible, saying memory verses, attendance, etc.  Award small prizes. 7.  Have a special craft once a month. 8.  Rev up your teaching time!  Use props such as costumes, pictures, videos.  Make your lesson time come alive.  Teach your lesson 2-3 times during the week out loud – you will be amazed at how you will be able to teach it to your students – not just following the words in the book. 9.  After the lesson, be creative!  Students should not just be sitting and waiting for Sunday School hour ...
