Here is today's podcast in blog post form. :)

We have had two snow storms in Reno so far this season.  The very first storm always has everyone the most excited!  Of course, the kids have to go out and build a snowman no matter how very little snow we may have received.
So, there was Mr. Snowman in our front yard.  Every morning, my five year old daughter would wake up and look outside and exclaim, “He’s still alive!”  Yes, he was.

You see, he lasted a lot longer than all the snow around him in our yard.  That snow melted within the first day.  But Mr. Snowman lasted all week.  He eventually melted leaving only the leaves that were rolled up in the snow and his hat lying on the grass.

So the lesson here is simple.  You will be able to withstand the elements of life much longer if you stick together! The snow that wasn’t stuck together did not last.  But the snow that was – did.   Who should we stick with?

First of all, stick with the Lord.  I think the best verse that applies here is Proverbs 18:24 – “A man that hath friends must shew himself friendly: and there is a friend that sticketh closer than a brother.”  No matter if no one else sticks with you, Jesus is all you really need.

Second, stick with your spouse.  Genesis 2:24 says “Therefore shall a man leave his father and mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh.”  I’m pretty sure being one flesh counts as sticking together!  Marriage is hard and if you claim it isn’t, you are lying.  It is bringing two opposite people, making them live together and still love each other!  It’s just plain hard.  But it is rewarding – especially when you stick together and stick it out.

Third, stick with your Christian friends.  “I say unto you, Though he will not rise and give him, because he is his friend, yet because he is his friend, yet because of his importunity he will rise and give him as many as he needeth.”  Stick close to your friends.  Be that friend that will go the extra mile.

So today’s challenge is:  Sticking together produces good results.  Stay close to the Lord, your spouse and your friends today!

You May Abound In Hope

Today I completed a devotional book by Candace Cameron Bure.  100 Days of Joy and Strength.  I was struggling last night.  Darkness seemed to overwhelm me.  The last day of this devotional gave me exactly the encouragement I needed to go another day. Here are the verses she shared from God's Word. "I wait for the Lord, my whole being waits, and in His word I put my hope."  Psalm 130:5 "We are afflicted in every way, but not crushed; perplexed, but not driven to despair; persecuted, but not forsaken; struck down, but not destroyed;"  II Corinthians 4:8-9 "As for me, I watch in hope for the Lord, I wait for God my Savior; my God will hear me.  Do not gloat over me, my enemy!  Though I have fallen, I will rise.  Though I sit in darkness, the Lord will be my light."  Micah 7:7-8 "I remain confident of this; I will see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living.  Wait for the Lord; be strong and take heart and wait for the Lord."...

Ten Tips for Sunday School Teachers

Ideas for Sunday School Teachers: 1.  Write a note to each student and mail it to their home. 2.  Visit the child in his home and bring a small treat. 3.  Make a special treat once a month for your students on Sunday. 4.  Have a Sunday School class activity on a Saturday or Sunday afternoon. 5.  Pray for your students. 6.  Have a monthly or quarterly contest for your students.  Include bringing their Bible, saying memory verses, attendance, etc.  Award small prizes. 7.  Have a special craft once a month. 8.  Rev up your teaching time!  Use props such as costumes, pictures, videos.  Make your lesson time come alive.  Teach your lesson 2-3 times during the week out loud – you will be amazed at how you will be able to teach it to your students – not just following the words in the book. 9.  After the lesson, be creative!  Students should not just be sitting and waiting for Sunday School hour ...
