My Week: January 1-4, 2020

Happy New Year!
This is the first post for my weekly updates that I hope to do for every week in 2020. :)  They are posts just to share our everyday, normal and simple life.

The last evening of 2019, we spent with our friends from Heritage at Matt and Alisa Keck's home.  We enjoyed the time so much just fellowshipping with our new family in Ohio!

We left around 11:15pm and for the first year, in a very long time, I was up to watch that ball fall.  Ha!

New Year's Day dawned with beautiful clear skies and sunshine!  Any time in Ohio in the winter you get sunshine, you try to enjoy it!

For lunch and the afternoon, we drove to my parent's home in Grover Hill and spent New Year's Day with them.  Dad made us chili and then we played Phase Ten.

Winter sunset over the fields of Ohio.

It is always weird having holidays in the middle of the week!  Throws you off big time.  But, back to school for us Thursday and Friday.

Thursdays, we try to invite different folks over from our church to get to know them.  This Thursday, we had Jesse and Dayna Ellis and their three sons for dinner.  They are a hoot and just fun people to be around!  We really enjoyed having them over.
For dinner, I made Mississippi Roast (what some people call it) and marinated chicken legs, mac and cheese, roasted red potatoes, corn and chef side salads.  We had ice cream for dessert.

Dayna brought a sweet fruit and nut basket with a few special extras - homemade herbal tea and hand soap from their side family business.
I have loved having that tea every day!

Max giving me the look with those puppy dog eyes hoping my shoes mean we are going on a walk.  LOL!

Friday was school and bowling league night.

We made it to the weekend after a very busy last month of 2019!

You May Abound In Hope

Today I completed a devotional book by Candace Cameron Bure.  100 Days of Joy and Strength.  I was struggling last night.  Darkness seemed to overwhelm me.  The last day of this devotional gave me exactly the encouragement I needed to go another day. Here are the verses she shared from God's Word. "I wait for the Lord, my whole being waits, and in His word I put my hope."  Psalm 130:5 "We are afflicted in every way, but not crushed; perplexed, but not driven to despair; persecuted, but not forsaken; struck down, but not destroyed;"  II Corinthians 4:8-9 "As for me, I watch in hope for the Lord, I wait for God my Savior; my God will hear me.  Do not gloat over me, my enemy!  Though I have fallen, I will rise.  Though I sit in darkness, the Lord will be my light."  Micah 7:7-8 "I remain confident of this; I will see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living.  Wait for the Lord; be strong and take heart and wait for the Lord."...

Ten Tips for Sunday School Teachers

Ideas for Sunday School Teachers: 1.  Write a note to each student and mail it to their home. 2.  Visit the child in his home and bring a small treat. 3.  Make a special treat once a month for your students on Sunday. 4.  Have a Sunday School class activity on a Saturday or Sunday afternoon. 5.  Pray for your students. 6.  Have a monthly or quarterly contest for your students.  Include bringing their Bible, saying memory verses, attendance, etc.  Award small prizes. 7.  Have a special craft once a month. 8.  Rev up your teaching time!  Use props such as costumes, pictures, videos.  Make your lesson time come alive.  Teach your lesson 2-3 times during the week out loud – you will be amazed at how you will be able to teach it to your students – not just following the words in the book. 9.  After the lesson, be creative!  Students should not just be sitting and waiting for Sunday School hour ...
