Thank you for stopping by my blog today! I hope you enjoy reading about my week here in Reno, NV.
Sunday, we had our Marriage Q&A for our marriage series - The One. It was different doing it two times in one day instead of one. Exhausting! LOL! I don't know how my husband does it. My hands were sweating and shaking. Ha!
Sunday afternoon, I had orange chicken supreme in the crockpot...it actually tasted more like teriyaki chicken but it was good. LOL!
Did church work for the afternoon and finished up my last two chapters for my Retire Inspire book study. The last chapter of the book was soo good!
Silly boys for night church for the nursery.
Thank you to my new secret sister - I sooooooooo love these!
After night church, home for chicken patty sandwiches and tator tots and off to my Sunday night shift.
Monday. And boy did it start off like a Monday would! I got off work at 8am. I went to the plasma center to donate. The waiting room was about half full and even though I knew it would take awhile, I decided to stay to donate. I wait for 1 hour and 25 minutes...to just be called to the side room where they check your vitals and so forth. She takes my temp and it was slightly over the limit. I knew why. I was sitting with a sweater and my winter coat inside for an hour and half! Augh! She says, You can come back tomorrow - yeah, I won't be doing that. Sigh.
So there went the first two hours of my day.
It was a very wet, chilly and rainy day. We stayed inside to keep cozy. Housework, laundry and school.
I did make one run to Wal-Mart - we ran out of coffee creamer and you just can't go without that. LOL!
Made spaghetti and garlic bread for an early dinner. I used to never like spaghetti - I would never make it once I was married and was the main cook. LOL! Now, I will crave it and I have to make it at least once in awhile.
The girls cleaned up the kitchen and did the dishes. I caught up on my e-mail and blogging while I listened to a few of Dave Ramsey's podcasts - always multi-tasking! :)
Then it was off to the church for a special service.
Dr. Dave Teis spoke for the Monday evening of Capitol Connection. It was a wonderful service and we were glad to be able to host it.
After the service, my husband and I went out to Steak and Shake with all the pastors and assistants from the various churches that attended.
We were able to sit with Dr. Teis and his wife - what an encouragement they are! They started their church in Las Vegas - Liberty Baptist - in 1977. Thirty-nine years there in Las Vegas. My husband and I were talking on the way to the restaurant about the Teis family. My husband mentioned how very real and genuine Dr. Teis is - a true prayer warrior. I was saying how I love how his grown children are a true testament to them. Matt, who organized this event, works at his dad's church and Josh started a church as well in Las Vegas. Being a pastor's kid myself and now raising pastor's kids...you have a little insight into this life. And you can see true, genuine families that are in it as well. The Teis family is truly that!
As we were sharing our thoughts with them, he mentioned his new book just came out - Raising God's Kids in Sin City. I ordered this book and am excited to read it. You can order a copy too! It is just $10...the link is davidteis.com.
The next morning, we headed to Carson City for Capitol Connections. The weather was insane...again. We have had quite the winter here in the Sierra Nevada's! To make it worse, the driver's side windshield wiper just flew off! Quite funny but not good for commuting. LOL!
The first meeting of the day was with Governor Sandoval. You may not have heard of Capitol Connection - this picture tells the story of what it is. Christians from churches from across the state go to their state capital and meet with various leaders of their state. They present a special engraved Bible to them, talk with them, thank them for all they do and then pray with them. We are there for no agenda. We just want to encourage them and establish a relationship with them.
What a special thing to be a part of! This is Governor Sandoval with the pastors that attended in his office.
A few pictures I took of the Capitol building - so beautiful! I absolutely adore old buildings!
They have a small museum there. Again, I love reading about the history of Nevada!
This state seal is made entirely of tiny little beads - so neat!
One of the statues outside in the courtyard.
Supreme Court of Nevada.
Nevada State Legislature Building.
Josh, Addie, Melissa, my husband and Papa Vern.
Inside where the Senate meets.
A couple pics of the girls - I was glad they came to be a part and see how and where it all happens.
Sarah Winnemucca - daughter of an Indian chief who did much for the Indians of Nevada.
Pastor Josh Teis getting ready to pray before the next session convened.
We were invited to a special Bible study. There is a nationwide ministry called Capitol Ministries. Get this - they hold Bible studies right there in all the capital cities for our representatives. Isn't that great that the Bible is being taught in our government buildings? That encouraged me so very much!
We were able to meet with one of our Senators - Don Gustavson. In talking with him, we found out he was a Christian and actually has ties with my husband and my alma mater - the Christian college that we attended - Hyles-Anderson. He helped to start Liberty Baptist Church there in Carson City years and years ago! Talk about a very, very small world!
We gave him a Bible and prayed with him.
We also met with Attorney General Adam Laxault. Presented him a Bible and prayed with him.
Lastly, we met with Barbara Cegavske- Secretary of State. We prayed as a group and was able to share about our day with each other. It was a wonderful and encouraging day.
It was then home - Autumn had fish sandwiches and potato wedges ready for dinner. Then it was off to my Tuesday night shift.
Wednesday, off at 8am. School.
Youth group.
Gym.
Work.
Not much else to tell! Ha!
Will the snow ever end?
My deck has no clue what season it is anymore.
Off at 8am. I had a dentist appointment at 9am so I had time to stop at Marketon - my little Spanish market - for some fruits and veggies.
Then to my dentist appointment. All that paperwork though! LOL!
Ugh. X-rays, cleaning, see the dentist. All that fun! I have a really sweet hygienist though that loves my girls when we come in.
Then I was paying some other dentist appointments ahead of time - another mix-up in scheduling - oh my goodness! Finally figured out what all the confusion was about and I think we are settled. Whew!
I then had a few errands.
Office Depot for paper for the church.
Cleaners to pick up a few pair of pants.
And Winco for groceries. A pretty busy morning!
Home to do some tests and grading and then off to lessons.
Swimming lessons - last one for this session. Then a break (the next session is full) and then we will do a third and final session in April before summer.
Made a simple meal for dinner - I am trying some budget friendly recipes to keep my grocery budget as low as I can. This was Spiced Beef over Noodles and BBQ Butter Beans. I really liked the beans! Just ketchup, brown sugar, onions...yum!
And then the rest of the evening at home. Happy sigh. :)
Friday is always a busy day! I try to get up early to get a head start on laundry and housework before everyone gets up and school starts.
Then worked on school a good part of the day. Finishing up grades and final exams for the quarter. One more quarter to go for the school year - Hooray!
Also finalized my FIL's paperwork for his will. Met Josh and Jenny at the UPS store to sign and notarize his will and ours. Check! So glad to get that all done.
My FIL treated us to a late lunch/early dinner at Dickey's BBQ and then we dropped him off, changed and headed to the gym for our Friday workout.
My husband then went to Uber for awhile and I went home.
Finished the laundry and ironing.
Kitchen cleaned and coffee maker prepped.
Remade my bed with clean sheets.
And completed more grades.
So...woke up Saturday morning to this...yet again. LOL! We have sure had our share of storms this year. I wasn't even expecting any snow Friday night.
Made breakfast for everyone Saturday morning - I don't make breakfast on a regular basis - we all just make our own. But scrambled eggs, toast with apple butter and bacon are a pretty good start to the day. :)
My husband then went to help out a church couple - they have some incredible flooding around their home. I did laundry and ironing, cleaning and preparations for Sunday.
At 1pm, we had a meeting at the church for something we were doing Sunday.
At 4pm, we met the Hectors - a couple from our church for an early dinner at Olive Garden. They have been so good to us and we wanted to return the favor to them.
Then it was home for the rest of the evening. :)
I hope you had a great week too!
