Summer Gieseler Visit: Day 7

On Monday, August 2nd, we did an excursion about Mount St. Helens with the Mount St. Helens Creation Center staff.  We began the tour at the center with a talk and video.

These are areas of deposits left and made by the volcano when it last erupted.  This is one of our guides, Isaac.

Harry Gardner Park

Alders are one of the first trees that populate and regrow in a volcano ravaged area.  They are a good sign to look for.

This is very interesting!  These two houses were halfway buried when the volcano erupted.  They have stayed this way since 1980.  Wow!

Some of these photos are from the drive in between stops.

Castle Lake Vista Point

It is smoky from the wildfires.

The Forest Learning Center.

We ate lunch at Cold Water Lake.

We then did a 2.5 mile hike on Hummocks Trail.  Learning more about Mount St. Helens.

Standing on part of Mount St. Helens.  This was part of the side of the mountain that exploded and was blown miles.  So, even though I am technically not ON Mount St. Helens, I am ON Mount St. Helens.  LOL!

In this photo, you can't see it, but there was a black bear. :)  It was cool!

Best view of Helens on our hike.

Our last stop was the Johnston Ridge Observatory.

Gieseler family.

Cousins!

Me and my girlies. :)

It was a neat day and excursion for all the family.  On the way home, we stopped in Vancouver at Chick-Fil-A for dinner.
