Our Idaho Adventure 2016

This post is about our recent trip to Salmon, Idaho to see Eric's side of the family...I hope you enjoy!

Saturday morning, we left for Idaho.  At 5am.  That was an early start with everyone.  Ha!  Oregon!

Idaho!

I realize this is not green...but I find beauty in a scene like this.  This is our western style of beauty.

OK, let's be real here.  We didn't go to Idaho for our family.  We went for this...Cracker Barrel!  :)  Boise is our closest Cracker Barrel to Reno.

Addie said she was practicing her face like the olden day photos where they didn't smile.  Good grief.

Then, we ran into a snag.  Closed road due to forest fires.  So we had to backtrack and then go on a dirt road for 25 miles.  Yep.

Nothing like "back roads"!  LOL!

A little rough on our car though!

A lot of acreage burned and still burning.

Watching the smoke and fires.

Taking a nap.

Little town - Stanley, ID.  So beautiful.

We finally made it to Jordan and Maci's house about 8:30pm.  We had hamburgers and chips and then stayed the night in their camper.

Sunday morning, coffee run with the hubby.  Shower and get ready for church.  A little tour of Salmon - this little town where my husband grew up several years of his childhood.  Small town of 3,112 people.

A very Western town - ranches and farms.  It is hard to describe coming from a city the size of Reno.  So many differences.

Sunday, we went to church at Calvary Chapel - the church that Jordan and Maci attend.  That morning, they had church service in the park in Salmon.

We had lunch at Subway with Secora, Uncle Jim and Phalen.  Then we went to Aunt Sharon's to visit her, Uncle Glenn and Grandma.  This is the view from Aunt Sharon's porch.

Aunt Sharon's garden.

Then it was back to Jordan and Maci's.  The girls got to ride their motorcycle which they loved.

They also got to ride Trinity's horse which they loved as well!!

The view from their farm.

Overlooking the fields with their cows.

Justin and Sarah arrived from Colorado as well as Andrew and Brooke.  Everyone wanted to go to the river.

After the river, we did pizza and softball at the park.

Beautiful sunset.

Eric and his grandma.

Our family with Grandma, Aunt Sharon and Uncle Glenn and Secora - his cousin.

So many deer all over everywhere we went!

I don't have any photos of Monday.  We went rafting and tubing down the Salmon River.  It was a lot of fun and a perfect day to be on the water.  The girls absolutely loved it.
After floating the river for about six miles, we went to Aunt Sharon's for burgers.

Tuesday morning, we went to the Amish Country Market that they have there.  Very neat!

We had homemade blueberry and apple scones.

Our family loves cheese and olives so that is a treat we buy for ourselves.

Those garlic and jalapeno olives were amazing!

So was the cheddar garlic cheese!  And I loved the mix of white cheddar and blueberry.

It was all so yummy!

We then headed to Uncle Jim's house for the rest of the day.

The kids loved the merry-go-round in his yard.

Of course, riding the motor bike again.

My husband and I rode up the mountain on the four wheeler and shot the guns and bow and arrow.

We had burgers, chips, honeydew and a delicious quinoa salad.

The next morning after our goodbyes, we left for home.
We hit the smoke and fires, of course.

But all is worth it when there is Cracker Barrel involved!

And a front porch checker game. :)

My poor hubby...he did most of the driving on the way home.  I couldn't keep my eyes open.  I did catch the beautiful sky when I was driving.
We arrived home about 11pm.  Home sweet home.

  2. I can't take any of the photos from the blog to keep. I really love some of them. I missed home this year, but always enjoy seeing it. I didn't know they now had an Amish market. That's great. Anyway, is there any way you could email me pics of the girls and the family doing stuff, at grandma's, at Jordan's and Sharon's? Also at Jim's? I'd really appreciate it. Addie has my email if you don't or you can text them. Looks like a great trip and I'm glad Eric got to show you a bit of his home. It's so much bigger than when we lived there tho. Less grocery marts, actual fast food joints which we didn't have. We loved Idaho, but life throws those curves at you and you have to adapt or die trying. Looks like a great family vacay, I'm happy all the cousins were there. Did you see Michele and her husband? I'm really happy the girls got to see where Eric grew up until he was 11 or so.

You May Abound In Hope

Today I completed a devotional book by Candace Cameron Bure.  100 Days of Joy and Strength.  I was struggling last night.  Darkness seemed to overwhelm me.  The last day of this devotional gave me exactly the encouragement I needed to go another day. Here are the verses she shared from God's Word. "I wait for the Lord, my whole being waits, and in His word I put my hope."  Psalm 130:5 "We are afflicted in every way, but not crushed; perplexed, but not driven to despair; persecuted, but not forsaken; struck down, but not destroyed;"  II Corinthians 4:8-9 "As for me, I watch in hope for the Lord, I wait for God my Savior; my God will hear me.  Do not gloat over me, my enemy!  Though I have fallen, I will rise.  Though I sit in darkness, the Lord will be my light."  Micah 7:7-8 "I remain confident of this; I will see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living.  Wait for the Lord; be strong and take heart and wait for the Lord."...

Ten Tips for Sunday School Teachers

Ideas for Sunday School Teachers: 1.  Write a note to each student and mail it to their home. 2.  Visit the child in his home and bring a small treat. 3.  Make a special treat once a month for your students on Sunday. 4.  Have a Sunday School class activity on a Saturday or Sunday afternoon. 5.  Pray for your students. 6.  Have a monthly or quarterly contest for your students.  Include bringing their Bible, saying memory verses, attendance, etc.  Award small prizes. 7.  Have a special craft once a month. 8.  Rev up your teaching time!  Use props such as costumes, pictures, videos.  Make your lesson time come alive.  Teach your lesson 2-3 times during the week out loud – you will be amazed at how you will be able to teach it to your students – not just following the words in the book. 9.  After the lesson, be creative!  Students should not just be sitting and waiting for Sunday School hour ...
