Hike: Lurch Mountain Crater Trail

On Saturday, we did a family day out.  Our first stop, lunch at Chick-Fil-A!  All of us girls LOVE Chick-Fil-A and guess what.  The dining room is FINALLY open again!  There's something WAY different getting to sit down INSIDE and enjoy a meal versus going through the drive-through and eating it from a sack.  I am SO glad it is open again and I enjoyed our lunch here that much more!

After our lunch, we went to the Columbia Gorge area - up to Larch Mountain.

The trail was well shaded which was nice on a hot day.  The trees were so tall and beautiful.  Very green everywhere!

As you can see in the photo above, some of the trail is a little rough.  Rocks and tree roots.  I'm pretty sure some of the trail is part of the streams in the rainy season.  It has been pretty dry for months so all the runoff is gone.  But it a little of a rough go of it with a strong dog pulling you.  LOL!

Saw these interesting mushrooms on the trail.

The afternoon sun rays filtering through the tall trees...just the sound of a few birds...a nice ending to the hike.

7.1 miles done.  I felt that the next day.  Ha!

Mt. Rainier
14, 410 ft.
97 miles away

Because of the distance and the smoke, it was a little difficult to see but you can still see Rainier.

Mt. St. Helens
8,363 ft.
46 miles away

Helens is flat top due to its eruption in 1980.

Mt. Adams
12,307 ft.
54 miles away

Beautiful!

Mt. Hood
11, 235 ft.
22 miles away

Hood is Portland's closest mountain.  She is so grand!!

Mt. Jefferson
10,497 ft.
62 miles away

A little faint but you can still see Jefferson.

Driving home through Portland.  The ice cream place that was recommended to us was closed so we stopped at Wal-Mart for ice cream and finished the day watching the movie, "Saving Mr. Banks".

You May Abound In Hope

Today I completed a devotional book by Candace Cameron Bure.  100 Days of Joy and Strength.  I was struggling last night.  Darkness seemed to overwhelm me.  The last day of this devotional gave me exactly the encouragement I needed to go another day. Here are the verses she shared from God's Word. "I wait for the Lord, my whole being waits, and in His word I put my hope."  Psalm 130:5 "We are afflicted in every way, but not crushed; perplexed, but not driven to despair; persecuted, but not forsaken; struck down, but not destroyed;"  II Corinthians 4:8-9 "As for me, I watch in hope for the Lord, I wait for God my Savior; my God will hear me.  Do not gloat over me, my enemy!  Though I have fallen, I will rise.  Though I sit in darkness, the Lord will be my light."  Micah 7:7-8 "I remain confident of this; I will see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living.  Wait for the Lord; be strong and take heart and wait for the Lord."...

Ten Tips for Sunday School Teachers

Ideas for Sunday School Teachers: 1.  Write a note to each student and mail it to their home. 2.  Visit the child in his home and bring a small treat. 3.  Make a special treat once a month for your students on Sunday. 4.  Have a Sunday School class activity on a Saturday or Sunday afternoon. 5.  Pray for your students. 6.  Have a monthly or quarterly contest for your students.  Include bringing their Bible, saying memory verses, attendance, etc.  Award small prizes. 7.  Have a special craft once a month. 8.  Rev up your teaching time!  Use props such as costumes, pictures, videos.  Make your lesson time come alive.  Teach your lesson 2-3 times during the week out loud – you will be amazed at how you will be able to teach it to your students – not just following the words in the book. 9.  After the lesson, be creative!  Students should not just be sitting and waiting for Sunday School hour ...
