Field Trip: Virginia City - Part 2

Boy, things have been a whirlwind around the Tastet home this past week!  I wanted to share photos from our recent field trip on Friday to Virginia City.  They have Flashback Fridays through October which means free admission to nearly 20 museums there.  Awesome!

Here are a few of the stops we made.
The Courthouse.  I really do love court houses around America.  They just seem to ooze old America.

All the furniture is still the original.  Isn't that neat?  Here is the solemn jury. :)

Love!  Can you imagine the trials that may have taken place here in the late 1800's?

The next was the Peace Officer Museum.  One man collected every piece in this museum and is only a sample really.  They have much more not able to be on display.

These are also the original jail cells too.

A very interesting place to visit is the Mackay Mansion.  The history on this little home is quite incredible.
John Mackay made his beginning of wealth in the silver mines.  He at one time was the third wealthiest man in the world.  This little "mansion" does not compare to his two other homes in London and Paris which had 150 rooms.

And then there was St. Mary's Catholic Church.  Beautiful building and architecture.  Yet it was difficult to get past the "religion" that was represented here.

As I looked at the items "representing" Christ and our Savior, it all was overwhelming.  Confession booth...am I so very glad that I don't have to tell my sins to a priest!  I am grateful we have one man between us and God - the man, Christ Jesus.

I thought of the man working in the museum below...the lady working the little bookstore...the woman who came to kneel and pray.  How misguided they are by religion.

The Comstock History Center.

Our last stop was the St. Mary's Art Center.
This building used to be the state of the art hospital facility. It was going to be tore down and it was saved by a priest.

Now they rent out these simple little rooms.  Many artists enjoy renting a room and staying to do work.
I can imagine what a peaceful place it must be!

And...on the way there and back, we saw four sets of wild horses in four different places.  Yep, these are wild yet you can get pretty close to them.  I just love that part about Nevada. :)

A fantastic day ended with hand dipped ice cream cones at the little ice cream parlors on Main Street there.  Two words:  Butter pecan.  Mmm!

Happy 45th Birthday, Eric!

Happy birthday to my husband, Eric!   He turns 45 today.  I am surprising him with tickets to a Miami Dolphins game in Miami.  I got him tickets one other time years ago when we lived in Reno.  We drove to Oakland to see the Dolphins play the Raiders.  I think this will be a great memory for him and a home game too! Happy birthday, babe!

Recipe: Chicken Parmesan

Chicken Parmesan This is a delicious recipe from Magnolia Table: Volume 2. 2 boneless, skinless chicken breasts  1/4 tsp. kosher salt 1/4 tsp. freshly ground black pepper 2 large eggs 1 tsp. garlic salt 1 sleeve (30-40) buttery crackers, crushed 4 oz. Parmesan cheese, grated (about 1 cup) 2 tbsp. olive oil 1 tsp. fresh lemon juice 1/2 cup mayo 1 tbsp. chopped fresh parsley (optional) Preheat the oven to 400 degrees. (I cut the chicken breasts in half to make thinner.).  Season with salt and pepper. In a medium bowl, whisk together the eggs and garlic salt until combined.  In another bowl, combine the crackers and 1/2 cup of the Parmesan. Dredgs each chicken breast in the egg mixture, then in the cracker mixture, and set the chicken aside on a plate. In a large skillet, heat 1 tbsp of the oil over medium heat.  Add 2 pieces of the chicken and cook until the cracker coating is crispy and golden brown, 3 or 4 minutes on each side.  Remove to a sheet pan or b...
