I Choose Facing the Giants...

Last night, we had our last Family Movie Night at our church for our Family Emphasis Quarter.  My husband and I originally planned to watch Mercy Rule with Kirk Cameron.  After watching it at home, my husband said to me, "I was disappointed.  They didn't say anything about God.  It was all about them working it out in their own way."  We then decided to watch Facing the Giants instead.

While watching Facing the Giants last night, I thought about the difference in the main characters of these two movies.  They both go through extremely difficult personal situations yet handle them in two completely different ways.  The son in Mercy Rule tried to figure out why the coach wouldn't play him.  It came down to him needing to play as a team player and not just for himself.

Good stuff.  I don't deny that.  Team players are extremely important in families, corporations and yes, churches!

Then you saw in Facing the Giants...another group of players.  Yet this coach emphasized God.  They would and could do nothing without God.  It wasn't about being a team and working together.  It was about depending on God for their strength and ability.
It was about getting God on your team!

I got goosebumps.  I cried many times.  That movie just gets me.  God is all over in every facet of their lives.

And facing your fears and giants.  Both men in the movie faced losing their jobs.  Big life stuff.  How do I handle the big life stuff?  Last night, I woke up thinking and worrying about some big stuff.  It was a great reminder to me to handle it like Coach.
I can't control the big things.  HE CAN!

Pray.  Give it to God.  And expect great miracles.

You May Abound In Hope

Today I completed a devotional book by Candace Cameron Bure.  100 Days of Joy and Strength.  I was struggling last night.  Darkness seemed to overwhelm me.  The last day of this devotional gave me exactly the encouragement I needed to go another day. Here are the verses she shared from God's Word. "I wait for the Lord, my whole being waits, and in His word I put my hope."  Psalm 130:5 "We are afflicted in every way, but not crushed; perplexed, but not driven to despair; persecuted, but not forsaken; struck down, but not destroyed;"  II Corinthians 4:8-9 "As for me, I watch in hope for the Lord, I wait for God my Savior; my God will hear me.  Do not gloat over me, my enemy!  Though I have fallen, I will rise.  Though I sit in darkness, the Lord will be my light."  Micah 7:7-8 "I remain confident of this; I will see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living.  Wait for the Lord; be strong and take heart and wait for the Lord."...

Ten Tips for Sunday School Teachers

Ideas for Sunday School Teachers: 1.  Write a note to each student and mail it to their home. 2.  Visit the child in his home and bring a small treat. 3.  Make a special treat once a month for your students on Sunday. 4.  Have a Sunday School class activity on a Saturday or Sunday afternoon. 5.  Pray for your students. 6.  Have a monthly or quarterly contest for your students.  Include bringing their Bible, saying memory verses, attendance, etc.  Award small prizes. 7.  Have a special craft once a month. 8.  Rev up your teaching time!  Use props such as costumes, pictures, videos.  Make your lesson time come alive.  Teach your lesson 2-3 times during the week out loud – you will be amazed at how you will be able to teach it to your students – not just following the words in the book. 9.  After the lesson, be creative!  Students should not just be sitting and waiting for Sunday School hour ...
