Finding Fruits and Vegetables for a Steal

Fresh fruit and vegetables can be very expensive!  And that is discouraging.  A friend about 1 1/2 years ago introduced me to Marketon.  A small Mexican style grocery store in Reno.

As you can see by the above ad, you can score great deals on fruits and vegetables.  Yesterday, I bought 6 bell peppers, 2 bunches of cilantro, 8 avocados, 1 jicama, 2 bunches of kale, over 3 lbs. of nectarines and peaches, over 2 lbs. of pears, 2 1/2 lbs of pickling cucumbers, 1 bunch of radishes, 3 lbs of red potatoes and 8 ears of corn for $16.91.

Pickling cucumbers...Going to try my hand at homemade pickles. :)
Ears of corn...Well, those are already gone - dinner last night!
Kale...Not familiar with it?  Bake it sprinkled with olive oil and sea salt for 8 min.  My kids devour it and it is full of good stuff!
Peaches...I have been waiting for you all winter!
Green bell peppers...on the menu - Stuffed Green Pepper Soup!
Jicama...Excited to introduce it to my kids.  Cut it up and it is great on a salad.

1.  I can buy affordable fruits and vegetables ALL year round.
2.  They offer different sale items every week so we have good variety.
3.  They offer items I normally would not purchase.  We can expand the variety of foods we use.

I encourage you to check around your city and see if you can find a little market like this.  Branch out and you may be surprised!

You May Abound In Hope

Today I completed a devotional book by Candace Cameron Bure.  100 Days of Joy and Strength.  I was struggling last night.  Darkness seemed to overwhelm me.  The last day of this devotional gave me exactly the encouragement I needed to go another day. Here are the verses she shared from God's Word. "I wait for the Lord, my whole being waits, and in His word I put my hope."  Psalm 130:5 "We are afflicted in every way, but not crushed; perplexed, but not driven to despair; persecuted, but not forsaken; struck down, but not destroyed;"  II Corinthians 4:8-9 "As for me, I watch in hope for the Lord, I wait for God my Savior; my God will hear me.  Do not gloat over me, my enemy!  Though I have fallen, I will rise.  Though I sit in darkness, the Lord will be my light."  Micah 7:7-8 "I remain confident of this; I will see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living.  Wait for the Lord; be strong and take heart and wait for the Lord."  Psalm 27

Ten Tips for Sunday School Teachers

Ideas for Sunday School Teachers: 1.  Write a note to each student and mail it to their home. 2.  Visit the child in his home and bring a small treat. 3.  Make a special treat once a month for your students on Sunday. 4.  Have a Sunday School class activity on a Saturday or Sunday afternoon. 5.  Pray for your students. 6.  Have a monthly or quarterly contest for your students.  Include bringing their Bible, saying memory verses, attendance, etc.  Award small prizes. 7.  Have a special craft once a month. 8.  Rev up your teaching time!  Use props such as costumes, pictures, videos.  Make your lesson time come alive.  Teach your lesson 2-3 times during the week out loud – you will be amazed at how you will be able to teach it to your students – not just following the words in the book. 9.  After the lesson, be creative!  Students should not just be sitting and waiting for Sunday School hour to end.  You have 45 minutes each week to impact that little life.  Make e
