The Reality of "Vision Sunday' for a Pastor's Wife

Today, many churches across America will be having a "Vision Sunday".  A special time that pastors will share their vision for their members as a church body.

This is actually a new thing for our church and my husband and I.  We started our church three and a half years ago and this will be our first year for a vision service as well as a yearly theme, etc.

May I encourage you as a pastor's wife with two thoughts as your pastor husband leads the flock of believers today in his vision?
(Those of you who are not a pastor's wife...you can listen in.)  :)

1.  Remember..."I chose this".
One day, it was just an overwhelming, stressful and emotional day in the ministry.  My husband reminded me,

"Honey, this is what WE chose.  This is our burden that WE chose.  We can't expect anyone else to have the burden because WE are the ones who chose this."

Perhaps sometime in this new year, you will have "one of those days".  You will maybe even wish you could throw it all out the door.  Remind yourself..."This is what MY HUSBAND AND I chose together".

2.  Remember..."I don't expect you to have the same vision"

And you will need this one every single day.  Yes, many will be excited today on Vision Sunday.  New themes, banners, exciting events on the calendar.  It is all new and different.  However, in the end, the pastor and his wife will be working, praying, preparing to make that vision happen.  For it is OUR vision.

And no one, no one, no one, will truly catch that vision like a pastor and pastor's wife will.  For it is really YOUR vision.

Will anyone ever love your kids to the depth that you will love them?  NO.  Simply because they are YOUR kids.

So, write these two phrases down in your journal or Bible.  For one day in 2014, you will need to remind yourself when discouragement hits and you seem all alone.

And then after you encourage yourself in the Lord, THANK the Lord for CHOOSING YOU to fulfill His vision for your city.
What an honor and a privilege to be a "pastor's wife".
